Covid-19 sent shockwaves through the healthcare industry in a variety of ways. One such way the general public might not expect is the impact it had on electronic health records (e-records), which inside the industry had been a burgeoning problem for years. Securing e-records is a costly business, but a necessary one, as data breaches have become more and more common over the past decade as sensitive information has largely migrated into the cloud. Without a corresponding increase in data security spending however, the problem had reached a tipping point before the public spotlight on the pandemic brought it to more people’s attention.
Going forward, staying data compliant and protecting patient information will be perhaps the main focal point for healthcare institutions behind the scenes. Our infographic below lays out some of this in numbers, but for more information on data protection and governance in the healthcare sector, check out InCountry’s research here.
