InCountry Announces Partnership with Alibaba Cloud to help companies expand in China

InCountry, the global data residency-as-a-service provider, is today announcing a landmark partnership with Alibaba Cloud, part of the digital technology and intelligence division of Alibaba Group. Alibaba Cloud is deploying InCountry’s technology to host the Alibaba Cloud InCountry Service (“ACIS”) platform, an integration that streamlines data compliance and regulation operations for multinational businesses expanding into China.

Through ACIS, businesses can flexibly configure their own data while complying with the various industry level regulations in the countries where they operate. This enables multinational companies to continue to use their existing SaaS applications and custom applications without violating any compliance regulations or having to deploy a separate stack in each country.

Peter Yared, CEO and Founder of InCountry, says, “We are delighted to announce this partnership with Alibaba Cloud. The ACIS solution offered by Alibaba Cloud and InCountry will enable enterprises to meet China compliance obligations without disrupting operations. As SaaS providers and multinational companies expand in this region, our joint solution enables existing global applications to localize regulated data and processing without having to rebuild a completely separate full stack for the Chinese market.”

Zhao Lin, Director of Alibaba Cloud Product Ecosystem Development, commented: “International software products have always had a broad customer base in China and they are important for Alibaba Cloud’s product technology ecosystem. With customers’ increasing compliance requirements, we want to work with industry leading partners such as InCountry to help accelerate the digital transformation of enterprises.”

The InCountry and Alibaba Cloud partnership is a timely development amidst the recent Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) passed in China. According to the strict guidelines in the new data regulation, illegal processing of personal data or failure to protect personal data will result in fines of up to US$7.7 million or 5% of the preceding year’s revenue.

Data residency and data compliance have become a key requirement for foreign companies operating in China. The PIPL law has created a rush of companies looking for solutions that will address PIPL compliance and to stay compliant with local data regulations.

The ACIS platform includes fully compliant local storage and processing, and can securely deliver regulated data to local browsers and mobile devices. InCountry provides the data management infrastructure for multinational companies to operate their applications across borders with full compliance.
